SALT LAKE CITY - Non-conference games with teams from The Big 12, PAC-10 and Big-10 Conferences highlight future University of Utah football schedules released today by Ute Athletic Director Dr. Chris Hill.
In the next few years the Utes will play home games in Rice-Eccles Stadium against Texas A&M, Colorado and Kansas State of the Big 12, Arizona, Washington State and Oregon of the PAC-10 and Indiana of the Big 10. Discussions for home and home games with Penn State, UCLA, California, Illinois, Missouri and Oregon State are also currently taking place.
"I'm excited about the direction our football scheduling is heading," said Hill. "Our goal is to bring high quality, entertaining football to our fans in Rice-Eccles Stadium. Our future non-conference schedules, combined with our league games in the new Mountain West Conference, should provide a consistent mix of excellent, college football action for Ute fans."
The Utes will also continue their in-state, home and home series with Utah State. Games with the Aggies are currently scheduled through the year 2005.
A new NCAA rule will also allow the scheduling of a 12th game in years where there are 14 Saturdays in the season. 2002 and 2003 are the first two seasons where an extra game will be added to the schedule.
