SALT LAKE CITY -
QUICKLY
Ninth-year Head Football Coach Ron McBride will hold Utah's preseason football camp on the University of Utah campus for the first time since he took the job in 1990. McBride has taken his troops down to "Camp Carbon" in Price, Utah, for the past eight years. The tradition has come to an end, due in a large part to the conversion to semesters by all the instate schools ... All of this year's preseason practices will be held at the Thomas Kearns McCarthey Fields, located behind the Dee Glen Smith Center ... New players report on Aug. 11, while the veterans check in on Aug. 13.

Named to the second team were punter Chris Hunter (6-5, 232, Jr.), strong safety Robert Love (5-9, 203, Sr.) and offensive tackle Nathan Sybrowsky (6-4, 327, Sr.). Wide receiver Daniel Jones (5-11, 182, Sr.) and defensive tackle Mike Thomas (6-1, 303, Sr.) were honorable mention all-WAC a year ago ... Junior college transfer Bobby Enosa has been released from the team for disciplinary reasons.
MCBRIDE ON THE PRESEASON CAMP
"Because of our move to the semester system and the fact that we open the season a week later than we usually do, it was impossible to work out the camp at Price. With school starting a month earlier at both Utah and the College of Eastern Utah, it (Camp Carbon) just won't work this year. This is my first time in nine years that we've held the camp up here, so I don't know exactly how things will go, but we do have some advantages holding it in Salt Lake City. One is that the fields are a lot better and the playing conditions are better. Also, it will be better from a medical standpoint because our medical team is based up here. The earlier start to school will be advantageous in that the players won't get in a rut ... The summer conditioning program went great, with about 90 percent participation from the guys who stayed in town. We look at the numbers every day and we had 36 or 37 guys that "cleaned" over 300 pounds, which is fantastic. That ("cleans") is the truest test of the quickness needed for football ... We want to accomplish two really important things prior to the season. One is to work on our consistency, which has been a big thing for us since January. The other is to be smart about the length of our practice times and make sure the practices are intense. We want to come out of camp mentally and physically ready but we also want to be fresh for the season. Our goal is shorter more intense practices."
