FINAL CONTACT
The Utah football team will spend the week gearing up for its annual spring game, scheduled for Sat., Apr. 25 at 10:30 a.m. at the Thomas Kearns McCarthey Practice Field. Admission is free and open to the public. Two days of practice will precede the scrimmage: Tuesday and Thursday practices are scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. The Utes, who have been participating in spring drills since April 2, will wrap up their spring training the following week with three days of "no tackle" practices. In a change from the preseason prospectus, those final three days of drills are April 28-30.
EARLY NUMBERS
The upcoming scrimmage concludes three straight weeks of Saturday scrimmages. Both returning quarterbacks have posted solid numbers in the two scrimmages to date. Sophomore quarterback Darnell Arceneaux(6-1, 187), who went into spring ball as the starter, is 9 of 16 passing for 80 yards. He has also displayed his considerable running skills, especially in goal line situations. Senior Jonathan Crosswhite (6-2, 210) is 10 of 18 passing for 126 yards and two touchdowns. The top runners have been junior Omar Bacon (6-1, 208) and redshirt freshman Thomas Fortune (6-3, 226). Bacon has 20 carries for 95 yards and 1 TD in the two outings. Fortune has 15 carries for 56 yards and 1 TD.

UTE COACH RON MCBRIDE SAYS
"To begin with, the defense was ahead of the offense. Now the offense has caught up and looks like it will be pretty decent. This week will be a test to see how the defense reacts to the offensive improvement ... The scrimmage Saturday could be anything from a Red-White scrimmage to a controlled scrimmage. We'll need to see what we still need work on after the two practices leading up to it. We need to make sure every day counts. We can't go out and have a fun day ... We've been inside a lot this spring but we're making forward progress. The defense has its entire package in and the offense is greatly improved."
