SALT LAKE CITY -
Senior running back Mike Anderson was named by the media as the preseason Mountain West Conference Offensive Player of the Year by media attending the MWC Football Preview in Colorado Springs, Colo., July 25-26. Anderson was one of four Utes named to the preseason all-conference first team. Junior offensive lineman Sam White, senior tight end Andy Kassotis and senior defensive end John Frank were also voted to the team.
Anderson and Frank both made the all-Western Athletic Conference first team last year in Utah's final year as a WAC member. Anderson (6-0, 232) led the WAC in rushing in his first year of NCAA ball, averaging 106.6 yards per game, which ranked him 20th in the nation in 1998. He gained 1,173 yards and had 12 touchdowns, while averaging 4.8 yards per carry. Frank (6-4, 271) was second in the WAC in sacks with 10, despite missing all of one game and most of another with a knee injury. He also had eight tackles for loss and 36 total tackles.
White (6-3, 285) was second-team all-WAC a year ago as a sophomore. He has started since his freshman year at guard. Kassotis (6-3, 271), an honorable mention all-WAC tight end in 1998, caught nine passes for 89 yards and one touchdown.
