SALT LAKE CITY -- This week, the Utes stay at home to face two non-conference opponents as Idaho State comes to town on Feb. 16 and Portland on Feb. 19. These matches are the second and third of Utah's current four match home stand, the longest of the season. In 1999, Utah defeated Idaho State by a 6-1 margin in a match that was played in Salt Lake City.
Last week, in its first ever Mountain West Conference match, Utah downed Air Force, 5-2. Despite a poor start, losing the doubles point, the Utes fought back winning five of six singles matches to defeat the Falcons. Regardless of the 5-2 deficit, the singles matches were extremely close with three matches going to a third set and three tie-breakers being played in all. The win boosted Utah's record to 2-4 in dual play and 1-0 in conference. The Falcons dropped to 7-2 overall and 0-1 in Mountain West play.
Coming up next week, Utah will play one of its biggest dual matches of the year as it will host BYU on Mar. 3.
