SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH - The University of Utah men's tennis team pulled off a sweep against Idaho State on Wednesday, winning each of its' singles and doubles matches to defeat the Bengals 7-0. The Utes, who currently boast a 2-2 dual record, won their second consecutive home match.
The most intense singles match came from the No. 1 position, where David Mercier knocked off Simmo Sommer in three games. The first two sets went to tie-breaker, with Mercier winning the first 7-6, losing the second 6-7, and then finishing the match 6-1. Nicholas Yip, Daniel Carlsson, Kevin Zenger, Corrie Scheepers and Tyler Poulson each breezed to win their matches in two sets.
In doubles play, Yip and Zenger continued their season success by beating Malcolm Swan and Bestian Stoica 8-5. The two are 9-3 overall and 3-1 in dual matches on the season. Carlsson and Mercier beat Simmo Sommer and Vasili Devidze 8-2, while Poulson and Scheepers shutout Adam Krupp and George Devidze 8-0.
The Utes will host Weber State, Idaho and Boise State next week.
