SPRING GAME AHEAD
This week marks the final week of spring training for the Ute football team. In a change from the original schedule released, the Utes will practice just three days this week: Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. The spring game will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Rice-Eccles Stadium. The public is invited and admission and parking are free.
PRACTICE TIMES
This week's practice schedule has the Utes practicing on Tuesday and Thursday from about 3:30-5:30 p.m. If the sun stays out and the McCarthey Practice Fields dry out, the plan is to practice there. Plan B is to hold practice in Rice-Eccles Stadium, which will be the site of the spring game on Saturday.

Please note: Liz Abel will be out of town all week at the NCAA Gymnastics Championships. Questions on practice times and locations should be directed to sports information office manager Nicole Forrest at 581-3511. Mike Lageschulte, associate SID, will handle statistics and media interview requests at the spring game.
BRESKA OUT
Highly touted quarterback Ryan Breska has injured his left (throwing) shoulder and will miss the final week of spring ball. Breska, a sophomore transfer from Purdue, was listed as No. 2 on the depth chart, but was in contention for the starting job. He was hurt at the end of practice on April 12, diving for a loose ball. Breska will be evaluated Monday afternoon by the team doctors and his course of treatment will be determined at that time.
SPRING NOTES
In two scrimmages this spring, No. 1 quarterback Lance Rice has completed 67 percent of his pass attempts (14-21) and has thrown for 207 yards and 1 touchdown (1 interception) ... Rice's favorite target has been incoming freshman Morgan Scalley, who has 6 receptions for 140 yards (23.3 yards per catch) and 1 touchdown. Scalley's TD was a 70-yard play from Rice ... The only halfback to play in both scrimmages is senior Dameon Hunter, who has totaled 23 carries for 168 yards (7.3 yards per carry) to lead all Ute rushers ... Oklahoma transfer Brian Lewis is bidding hard for the starting place-kicking job. Lewis made consecutive field goals from 45 and 47 yards out last Saturday ... The experiment that moved Ma'ake Kemoeatu to defensive end is officially over. Kemoeatu has returned to his starting post at nose guard. The latest experiment on the line has Garrett Smith trying out the 5-technique end. Smith was Utah's starting tackle as a sophomore last fall. Replacing Smith at tackle is Lauvale Sape.
MCBRIDE SAYS
"On Saturday, our scrimmage will be pretty vanilla. We're going to get another hard look at the unproven players. I think the fans will enjoy seeing what the quarterbacks and new kids look like. We're becoming a very physical football team. It was a very physical spring. I was very impressed with the first defense last Saturday and I was also impressed with the running backs. We just need a little more finish on the offense, but we've moved forward every day. There have been no days where we felt like we didn't get anything done. The kids are trying to do the right things every day."
