SALT LAKE CITY -
University of Utah offensive guard Ed Ta'amu, originally handed a three-game suspension by Head Coach Ron McBride for his role in a July 4 altercation, will instead miss two games, undergo anger management counseling and perform community service, McBride announced today.
"I said when I handed down Ed's suspension that I would revisit it later. It has become clear to me that three games is too harsh a punishment for this particular situation. Ed's response has been just what I hoped for. He has learned his lesson and I am confident he will not respond in the same way if he is ever placed in a situation like that again," said McBride.
Ta'amu was charged with misdemeanor assault after hitting a man who threw illegal fireworks at him.
Ta'amu, an all-conference candidate who was scheduled to start at left guard before his suspension, will miss the first two games of the season: Utah State on September 1 and Oregon on September 8.
