SALT LAKE CITY -
The University of Utah football team tied with national champion Miami for fewest number of sacks allowed in 2001. Utah and Miami both allowed five sacks in 11 regular season games for a 0.45 per game average. Utah's offensive line, generally regarded as the best in school history, also helped produce the nation's No. 12 ranked rushing offense (218.9 yards per game).
Leading the way was senior offensive tackle Doug Kaufusi, who was named first-team All-Mountain West Conference for a second time. Junior guard/tackle Jordan Gross and sophomore center Dustin McQuivey made the honorable mention all-conference team. Senior offensive guard Ed Ta'amu, who led Utah in de-cleaters and set a school record with 25 de-cleaters against BYU, made the media's all-conference team.
