The way Brett Elliott sees it, it was just a matter of time before he became the starting quarterback at the University of Utah. The redshirt sophomore figures he actually is a little behind schedule.
"I had hoped to start after my freshman year," he said.
Elliott's ascension was delayed partly because of a thumb injury and the departure of former offensive coordinator Tommy Lee, leaving him simply to work hard and wait until now to become the man the Utes hope can lead them to the Mountain West Conference championship. Elliott will make his first start since his senior year in high school when the Utes play at San Diego State on Saturday.
"I just can't wait to have a game," he said.
Especially after waiting so long already.
