BERKELEY, Calif. - The University of Utah men's tennis team lost to the 17th ranked Cal Berkeley Bears on Tues. Feb. 25, 7-0. The Utes will move to 5-5 on the year after finishing their road trip. Utah will play host to Portland on Friday March 1 at the Sports Mall.
In singles competition, Cal's John Paul Fruttero defeated Nik Yip (6-4, 6-3) at the one position. At the two, Cal's Balazs Veress beat Corrie Scheepers (7-6, 6-2). Cal's Conor Niland downed Daniel Carlsson (6-0, 6-0) at the three. The Bears' Robert Kowalczyk defeated Tyler Poulson (6-2, 7-6) at the four. Cal's Mik Ledvonova beat Tobias Tangberg (6-4, 6-3) at the five and Cal's Ben Miles defeated Daniel Lohff (6-3, 6-2) at the six.
In doubles competition, Utah got its only win with Mercier/Yip defeated Fruttero/Kowalczyk (8-3). Cal's Miles/Veress beat Carlsson/Poulsen (9-7) and Cal's Exon/Niland downed Tangberg/Scheepers (8-2).
