THIS WEEK: The University of Utah men's golf team will travel to Las Cruces, N.M., to compete in the Herb Wimberly Classic on Friday and Saturday, Mar. 1-2. The event will be held at the New Mexico State University Golf Course.
JOHN BURNS INVITATIONAL RECAP: The University of Utah men's golf team finished 13th out of 20 teams at the John Burns Invitational on Feb. 22, 2002. Utah finished with a three-round score of 891. San Diego State won the tournament with a 853 total.
Freshman Ashdon Woods finished ninth overall to lead the Utes with a three round score of 214. Woods finished with a 71 (one-under par) in his first two rounds, before finishing with a score of 72 (par) in the third round.
Sophomore Luke Swilor finished tied for 22nd with a three-round score of 218, Swilor finished at par (72) in the first round and one-over par in the last two rounds (73). Nick Micek finished tied for 70th place with a 229 total. Paul Winterowd finished tied for 76th place with a overall score of 230, and Jason Shepard finished tied for 88th with a 235 total.
