SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah men's tennis team lost its first home match to BYU on Thru., Apr. 11. Utah is now 12-9 overall and 1-2 in the Mountain West Conference. The Utes will take San Diego State on Fri., Apr. 12 at the Canyons Tennis Club at 2:00 p.m.
In single competition, BYU's Gert Vilms sneaked past David Mercier (7-5, 3-6, 7-5) at the one position. BYU's Carlos Lazano beat Corrie Scheepers (3-6, 6-4, 6-3) at the two. BYU's Nicolas Losee downed Nik Yip (7-6, 7-6) at the three. The Cougars' Erik Nyman defeated Tyler Poulson (7-6, 6-3), BYU's Jeff Olsen beat Daniel Lohff (6-3, 3-6, 6-4) and BYU's Jeff Harbach downed Tobias Tangberg (6-3, 7-5).
In doubles, BYU's Vilms/Lozano defeated Mercier/Yip (8-6) at the one. BYU's Losee/Nyman downed Carlsson/Poulson (8-6) at the two and BYU's Olsen/Harbach defeated Scheepers/Lohff (8-6).
