THIS WEEK:
The Utah golf team travels to Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. on March 17-18, for the USD Invitational. Utah looks to continue to roll after finishing in third at the Highlander Classic. This weeks lineup for the Utes will include Casey Fowles, Ashdon Woods, Garrett Clegg, Carl Jensen and Steve Newren.
THE FIELD:
The USD Invitational hosted by the University of San Diego and will include teams from around the country such as Connecticut, Boston College and Nebraska along with in state school Southern Utah. The 54-hole tournament will begin on March 17, with 36 holes and conclude on March 18 with the final 18 holes. Play will begin with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. at the Del Mar Country Club.
LOOKING BACK AT THE HIGHLANDER CLASSIC:
Ute junior Garrett Clegg was the wire-to-wire leader on his way to becoming the individual winner at the Highlander 'Braveheart' Classic. Clegg shot an eight-under 208 for the tournament with rounds of 66-71-71, leaving him two-strokes ahead of the field. Utah finished with a team score of six-over 870. The Utes finished in third after leading the tournament following the first round.
UTE NOTES:
Last year Utah competed in the USD Invitational and finished in 13th with a team score of 959. The team is averaging a 7th place finish in tournaments this year, with an average round of 294. Utah had its best finish at the Countrywide Intercollegiate, finishing first. Freshman Casey Fowles and junior Garrett Clegg have each finished first in a tournament this year. Fowles won the Countrywide Intercollegiate, while Clegg finished first in the Highlander Classic.
