SALT LAKE CITY -
Jordan Gross became the highest drafted player in Utah football history when Carolina nabbed him with the eighth pick in the first round of the NFL draft on April 26. Gross, a consensus All-America offensive tackle, joins three other former Utes at Carolina. Receivers Steve Smith and Kevin Dyson are both on the roster and former Ute quarterback Mike McCoy is an offensive assistant coach.
Lauvale Sape, a second-team all-conference defensive tackle for Utah in 2002-03, was taken by Buffalo in the sixth round and was the 187th overall pick.
Antwoine Sanders, a 2003 first-team all-conference free safety, was drafted in the seventh round with the 258th pick by Baltimore.
Ute free agents who had signed as of April 28 are center Dustin McQuivey (Cincinnati) and wide receiver Paris Jackson (Buffalo). Former Ute receivers coach Fred Graves is now the receivers coach at Buffalo.
