ESPN.com Rates Ute Football Recruiting Class Best In MWC

ESPN.com's recruiting analyst Tom Lemming gave high marks to Utah's 2004 football signing class in the Feb. 18 issue of ESPN Insider. Lemming, who evaluated all of the major conferences, liked the MWC's recruiting efforts as a whole and Utah's in particular.
Said Lemming, "The Mountain West teams all did an excellent job recruiting this season. From top to bottom, the teams in this conference do a great job of not only identifying prospects, but they also find players who fit their systems. As a whole, the group also does a solid job raiding the junior college ranks."
Here's how Lemming rated the MWC's 2004 recruiting classes: 1. Utah, 2. Colorado State, 3. San Diego State, 4. Brigham Young, 5. Wyoming, 6. UNLV, 7. New Mexico, 8. Air Force (note, AFA does not sign recruits to letters of intent).
Here's what he had to say about the newest Utes: "The Utes signed 23 players and helped themselves at every position, especially along the offensive line and in the secondary. Head coach Urban Meyer's athletic class includes a standout power back and a hard-throwing quarterback."
Lemming thinks the key player in the class is running back Ray Stowers out of Honolulu's Iolani High School. His "sleeper" pick is QB Paul Kruger from Timpanogos High School in Orem, Utah.
