THIS WEEK: The University of Utah men's tennis team continues on the road this week with match ups against UC Riverside, Oklahoma State, Minnesota and Dartmouth in San Diego, Calif. The Utes battle UC Riverside on Sunday, March 14, at 1:00 p.m., Oklahoma State on Tuesday, March 16, at 10: 00 a.m., the University of Minnesota on Thursday, March 18, at 10: 00 and Dartmouth on Saturday, March 20 at 10:00 a.m.
REVIEWING LAST WEEK: The Utes competed against Boston College and the University of Denver last week in Denver. Utah walked away with a 4-0 win over Boston on Saturday, March 6. The next day, the Utes fell to No. 75 Denver 6-1.
Senior Roeland Brateanu picked up two wins at the No. 1 singles. His first win was against Boston's top player Justin Slattery (6-1, 7-5). The second win was against Denver's No. 62 Nejc Smole (7-6, 7-6).
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION: UC Riverside is struggling with a 0-7 mark on the season. The Highlanders have only two seniors this season and their top player, sophomore Norman Tam, has an overall 2-4 record in the season at the No. 1 and 2 singles, which is the best on the team.
Oklahoma State is ranked 26 nationally, with a 4-1 record. The Cowboys only loss has been to No. 35 Arkansas. However, Oklahoma bounced back with a 5-1 win over No. 72 BYU the following week.
Minnesota has compiled a 4-4 record this season. The Gophers have walked away with wins over Northwestern 5-2, Iowa 5-2, Wake Forrest 5-2, and Oregon 3-4. However, Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth, Harvard, and Georgia Tech have all defeated Minnesota.
Dartmouth has a 4-3 mark on the season. The Big Green's wins have been over St. Bonaventure 6-1, Connecticut 7-0, Boston College 6-1, and Colgate 6-1. Dartmouth fell to Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Furman.
QUOTING ASSISTANT COACH Graeme Cox: "Our difficult road swing continues next week with our Spring Break trip to San Diego. We have an excellent chance to notch some wins against quality opponents and the team is looking forward to that."
