Riverside, Calif. - The University of Utah men's tennis team cruised to a 7-0 win over UC Riverside Sunday.
The Utes dominated in doubles to take a one point lead. At the No. 1 spot, senior Roeland Brateanu teamed up with Miron Mann and crushed Mark Contreras and Brent Davis (8-2). Sophomores Tomasz Gryzb and Nick Coutts walked away with an (8-4) win over Jeremy Owens and Norman Tam at the No. 2, while sophomore Mike Bullard and freshman Dantley Young held on to a close (8-6) win over John Cava and Jordan Leo at the No. 3.
Utah continued in a dominating fashion in singles. Brateanu won for the third straight time at the No. 1 singles with (6-2, 6-4) over Tam. Gryzb fought hard at the No. 2 to beat Contreras (7-5, 7-5). It took Mann three sets to dispatch Davis (6-2, 3-6, 6-1) at the No. 3. At the No. 4, Coutts defeated Leo (6-4, 6-4), while Young went three sets to defeat Ownes at the No. 5 (3-6, 7-6, 6-4). Scott blasted Cava (6-0, 6-1) at the No.6.
The men's tennis team hits the courts next on Tuesday, March 16 in San Diego, Calif. against the University of Oklahoma at 10:00 a.m.
