The University of Utah men's tennis team was shut down 5-2 by Minnesota at a neutral site on the San Diego State University campus on Thursday, March 18, 2004. The loss puts the Utes at 7-8 on the season
Utah won two of the three doubles matches and picked up the doubles point. Competing at the No. 1 spot, senior Roeland Brateanu and freshman Miron Mann crushed Avery Ticer and Clay Estes (8-0). At the No. 2, sophomores Nick Coutts and Tomasz Gryzb fended off Andres Osorio and Chris Wettengel (8-6) and the duo of freshman Ryan Scott and sophomore Mike Bullard fell to Sion Wilkins and Brajan Lipinski (8-2) at the No. 3.
In singles, Minnesota dominated. However, Mann walked away with a win at the No. 3 when he took care of Osorio in three sets (7-6, 3-6, 7-5). Brateanu dropped to Wettengel in a close match at the No. 1 (6-3, 6-4) and Gryzb lost (7-5, 6-2) to Ticer at the No. 2. Playing at the No. 4, freshman Dantley Young was defeated by Estes (6-1, 6-3) and Coutts, playing at the No. 5, was defeated by Lipinski (6-2, 7-6). The final loss came at the No. 6 when Scott fell to Wilkins (7-6, 6-1).
