THIS WEEK: The University of Utah men's tennis team continues on the road this week with match ups against Boston College on Saturday, March 6 at 10: 00 a.m. and the University of Denver on Sunday, March 7 at 11:00 a.m at the Stapleton Tennis Pavillion in Denver.
REVIEWING LAST WEEK: The Utes are coming off a tough rough trip in California where they battled Saint Mary's, the University of San Francisco, No. 6 Stanford, and No. 20 Cal Berkely. In four matches, Utah only walked away with one victory. The Utes defeated Saint Mary's 5-2 on Feb. 21.
However, Utah was dispatched by the San Francisco Dons 5-2 on Feb. 23. The Utes were also downed by two high ranked teams on the road. No. 6 Stanford crushed Utah 7-0 on Feb. 24 and No. 20 Cal Berkely downed them 7-0 on Feb. 25.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION: Boston College men's tennis team has a 3-5 mark on the season, with wins over Colgate 5-2, St. Bonaventure 4-3, and UC Riverside 6-1. The Eagles have suffered losses to Brown, George Washington, Dartmouth, Pennsylvania, and Princeton. Despite the losses, senior captain Justin Slattery has won five consecutive matches at the No. 1 spot.
The University of Denver also has a 3-5 mark on the season. The Pioneers just broke a five game losing streak with a 5-2 win over Lamar. Other wins have been over BYU 5-2, and Utah State 6-1. Denver's five losses have been to Oregon, Boise State, New Orleans, New Mexico St., and Arkansas. One of the Pioneer's top players is Nejc Smole, a sophomore with an 8-2 record on the season at the No. 1 singles.
QUOTING ASSISTANT COACH Graeme Cox: "The team continues its difficult road trip in Denver this weekend against two strong opponents in Denver and Boston College. Hopefully we will be able to find some good form and come back with a couple of wins."
