BRAVEHEART CLASSIC:
The Utah men's golf team will travel to Riverside, Calif., to compete in the Braveheart Classic on March 8-9. Utah is coming off a season-worst, 18th-place-finish at the John Burns Intercollegiate and will try to rebound this week. The starters this week are Luke Swilor, Garrett Clegg, Casey Fowles, Carl Jensen and Jake Sowby.
LOOKING BACK AT THE JOHN BURNS INTERCOLLEGIATE:
Utah got off to a great first round at the John Burns Intercollegiate on Feb. 18, as they were in second-place after one round. The Utes struggled over the next two rounds as they put up a three-round total of 15-over-par, 879 (278-304-297), finishing 18th. Luke Swilor was the top Ute, finishing with a one-over-par, 217.
UTE NOTES:
Last season at the Braveheart Classic, the Utes finished third as the team shot an 870 (285-296-289). Garrett Clegg was the individual champion with a three-round score of 208 (66-71-71).
Utah is ranked 67th in the nation according to the GolfWeek national rankings. Garrett Clegg is ranked 23rd in the nation for college golfers in the Golfstat cup standings. He is also 92nd in the GolfWeek individual standings. Casey Fowles and Luke Swilor are each included in the GolfWeek Top 300.
The Utes continue to excel both on and off the golf course. The team placed four golfers on the fall semester honor roll, including Chace Bickmore, Garrett Clegg, Carl Jensen and Luke Swilor.
QUOTING HEAD COACH Wayne Fisher:
"We haven't had a chance to practice a lot due to the weather conditions. We are excited to compete in a tournament where we've had success in the past. This team has worked hard and we feel good about going into the tournament."
