Utah Golf Awaits Cowboy Classic

THIS WEEK:
The University of Utah men's golf team will travel to Scottsdale, Ariz., for the Wyoming Cowboy Classic. The two day tournament will begin on Monday, April 12, with the first two rounds of competition. The final round will be played on Tuesday, April 13. Wyoming will be the host school.
WYOMING COWBOY CLASSIC:
This year's tournament will once again be played at the North Course at Talking Stick. The Talking Stick North Course was named the Top Public Course in the state of Arizona by Golfweek magazine in both 2002 and 2003. Talking Stick was also ranked by Golf magazine as one of the Top 100 Best Courses You Can Play in both 2002 and '03.
The teams that will participate in the tournament are Air Force, Arizona, Boise State, Cal Poly, Cal State Northridge, Campbell, Drake, Grand Canyon, Idaho, Loyola (Md.), New Mexico State, Northern Colorado, UC Santa Barbara, UCLA, Utah, Weber State, Western Kentucky and Wyoming.
LOOKING BACK AT THE PACIFIC COAST INTERCOLLEGIATE:
Utah finished with a team score of 911 (300-309-302), 47-over-par. The Utes third round 302 dropped them from ninth going into the final round to a 12th-place finish. Luke Swilor was the top Ute with a score of eight-over, 224. Swilor added a final round 76 after shooting 74 in each of the first two rounds, finishing 23rd individually.
UTE NOTES:
The Utah team is ranked 48th in the nation in the GolfStat rankings. Garrett Clegg is ranked sixth in the conference according to the GolfStat Mountain West Conference leader board. Other Ute's included on the leader board include Luke Swilor and Casey Fowles who sit 21st and 22nd, respectively. Clegg is ranked 49th in the nation for college golfers in the Golfstat Cup standings.
According to the GolfWeek national rankings the Mountain West Conference currently boasts four teams in the top 25. UNLV is ranked 11th, BYU sits 14th, New Mexico 18th and Colorado State is 24th in the nation.
QUOTING HEAD COACH Wayne Fisher:
"The team is looking to play up to its potential after a strong fall. We have yet to hit stride this spring but the effort continues to improve. Now we need the scores improve as the effort has."
