SALT LAKE CITY -
THIS WEEK: The University of Utah men's tennis team opens up the spring season at home Jan. 24 against Utah State and Jan. 28 against Montana State. Both match ups are scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
REVIEWING LAST SEASON: The Utes wrapped up the 2004 season with an 11-12 record and a 1-3 mark in the conferences. Utah placed 5th in the Mountain West Conference.
UTE NEWCOMERS: The men's tennis team has added a few names to the 2005 roster. Zach Ganger, Dan Mascall, Rian Rifkin and Chad Robbins all join the Utes this year.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT: Utah State opened the 2005 season on Jan. 16 with a 5-2 victory over Idaho. Last year, the Aggies finished 6th in the Big West with a 10-13 mark.
Montana State completed a successful season by winning the Big Sky conference and compiling a 17-6 record. The Bobcats advanced to the NCAA tournament but fell to the No. 4 USC Trojans.
Frederico Ueltschi became the first Bobcat to earn the Big Sky tennis MVP award.
QUOTING ASSISTANT COACH Graeme Cox: "Montana State are a strong regional opponent that comes into the match on Friday with a higher regional ranking than us. We are motivated to perform well against them and see where we stand in our region."
