Head Coach Elaine Elliot
On the purpose of exhibition games: "It's just a better chance to evaluate some things in practice every good thing can also be a bad thing. If you're beating me on offense, the bad thing is I'm getting beat on defense. When we play somebody else, we can just look at ourselves and focus on what we really need to do. It's for evaluation. We play with 14 kids, that's not how you're going to play the season."
On what's bad: "Our defense is bad. I really do not like where we are defensively right now at all. The second half I saw a better commitment to it. I saw a much better attempt and honestly we'll get better. We do have to tend to our defense right now. We didn't have good inside play tonight. Our starting five go 2-for-10 against one post kid who's 6-feet tall, that's not good news. We have to get better play from them. That's the first chance we got to address it. Now it's obvious so we'll work on that.
On what's good: "We've got good talent. Obviously, nobody was surprised at what Shona and Kim are doing. I really liked Marie's game, I thought Marie played really well today. I though Jess Perry comes with much intensity the second she steps on the floor. I thought Heidi did a nice job when she stepped on the floor. Morgan's going to be good. Joh struggled but is going to be good. I like our talent. We do have to get better at what we're doing but I like my talent. I like the possibilities."
About the game: "I think it was a good game, you could tell it was the first game for us. Defensively we really need to improve and we need to work on that. But offensively we're doing some good things. It was a great chance to finally work together instead of against each other on the court."
About the freshmen: "They did very well. It's always an exciting game when it's your first one to come in and I think they came in and they all competed hard for us. You just have to help them along and the faster they come along the better we're going to be. To be able to give them pointers in a live game, it's nice for them to be able to see the situations and see them develop, and to let us help them through it."
