STILLWATER, Okla. – The Utah women's basketball team had a slow third quarter that the Utes couldn't bounce back from that led to a 73-55 loss to Oklahoma State Monday afternoon.
Utah now has a 17-10 overall record and sits at 7-7 in Big 12 play. The Utes were led by Maty Wilke and Samantha Crispe who each had 10 points. Crispe's 10 points marks a season high and the most she's had as a Ute.
GAME SUMMARY Utah started the game off with five straight points from LA Sneed. The Cowgirls answered with a 13-1 run to push out for an 18-11 lead over the Utes at the end of the first quarter.
The Utes struggled to spark momentum in the second quarter but continued to battle. Utah held Oklahoma State to a three minute scoring drought to end the first half but the score still sat in favor of the Cowgirls 29-23 going into halftime.
Oklahoma State came out of halftime firing to pull out for a 22 point lead over Utah. The Cowgirls outscored the Utes 24-8 in the third quarter.
Utah didn't give up in the fourth quarter and put together an 11-0 run with eight of those points coming from Samantha Crispe. Despite the momentum shifting in favor of the Utes and Utah outscoring Oklahoma State in the fourth quarter the damage had been done as the Utes fell to the Cowgirls 73-55.
LEADERS Utah was led by Maty Wilke and Samantha Crispe who each had 10 points. Crispe had two made from beyond the arc and all of her points came within 10 minutes of game play. Brooke Walker added eight points for Utah with Lani White posting seven.
Eveliina Otto led the Utes with seven rebounds and Reese Ross led Utah with four assists.
COMPARISON Utah shot 38.6% from the field while Oklahoma State shot 43.1%. Utah went 33.3% from three knocking down 6-of-18 while Oklahoma State shot 40.0% going 6-of-15. At the free-throw line, Utah shot 88.2% going 15-of-17 while Oklahoma State shot 81.0% converting 17-of-21.
Utah had 10 assists on 17 made field goals while Oklahoma State had 14 assists on 25 made field goals. The Utes outrebounded the Cowgirls 33-29.
UP NEXT Utah will return home to host rival BYU on Feb. 21 before embarking on the final road trip of the regular season to take on the Buffs of Colorado. Utah's final home game of the season will be Feb. 28.
