RICHMOND, Ky. – Utah women's basketball's 2025-26 season came to an end Thursday evening as Utah fell 72-58 to Eastern Kentucky in the First Round of the Women's Basketball Invitational.
Utah ended the season with a 19-13 overall record on the season. The Utes were led by senior Lani White's 20 points and junior Chyra Evans' double-double of 13 points and 13 rebounds.
GAME SUMMARY Lani White started the game scoring 11 of Utah's 15 points including three made from deep. Utah stayed strong throughout the entire first quarter and pulled ahead for a 19-13 lead over EKU to end the initial 10 minutes of play.
The Utes were able to maintain the lead in the second quarter, never allowing the Colonels too much momentum. Utah was able to maintain a 34-29 lead going into halftime.
The third quarter proved to be an Achilles' heel for Utah yet again as EKU surged with a 16-3 run to take a 51-46 lead going into the final 10 minutes of play. The Colonels outscored Utah 22-12 in the third quarter.
Utah struggled to find momentum in the fourth quarter as EKU pushed out for an 11 point lead. Utah couldn't finish and fell 72-58 to EKU.
LEADERS Utah had two Utes score in double figures and were led by senior Lani White's 19 points. Chyra Evans also helped out the Utes with 13 points and 13 rebounds. Reese Ross also had a big game on the boards pulling down 11. Evans and Maty Wilke each added four assists to contribute to the Utes offensive efforts.
COMPARISON Utah shot 40.0% from the field while EKU shot 41.9%. Utah went 25.0% from three knocking down 5-of-20 while EKU shot 35.7% going 10-of-28. At the free-throw line, Utah shot 64.3% going 9-of-14 while EKU shot 66.7% converting 10-of-15.
Utah had 16 assists on 22 made field goals while EKU had 14 assists on 25 made field goals. Utah dominated the boards, pulling down 42 to EKU's 32.
