ST. GEORGE, Utah - The University of Utah men's golf team finished the SUU Tournament in third place with a 36-hole score of 589 (+13). Southern Utah finished second, four strokes ahead of the Utes, and the University of Denver finished in first place at 14-under par (562). The tournament took place at the 72- par Sunbrook Golf Course in St. George, Utah.
Freshman Dustin Pimm was the top finisher for the Utes, finishing tied for fifth place with Weber State's Matt Williams. Pimm shot a 72 in the second round to finish at one under par (143). Junior Steve Newren dropped to 11th place after finishing the second round six over par to tally a final score of 147 (+3).
Chris Gresh and Nick Micek both tied for 17th place at five over par (149). Jake Sowby finished 22nd for the Utes, after shooting 70 in the second round to finish at 151 (+7). Senior Ashdon Woods improved in the second round by two strokes to finish with a 75 on the day and 152 (+8) overall.
Nick Carter and Chace Bickmore finished 39th and 49th respectively. Carter finished at 11-over par (+11) and Bick more finished at 21-over par (165).
Utah travels to Hawaii to compete in the John Burns Classic, hosted by the University of Hawaii, Feb. 23-25.
