Utah Men's Golf Notes

THIS WEEK:

The University of Utah men's golf team will compete in the John A. Burns Intercollegiate Feb. 23-25. The event will be hosted by the University of Hawaii and will take place at the Leilehua Golf Course.

SUU TOURNAMENT RECAP:

ST. GEORGE, Utah - The University of Utah men's golf team finished the SUU Tournament in third place with a 36-hole score of 589 (+13). Southern Utah finished second, four strokes ahead of the Utes, and the University of Denver finished in first place at 14-under par (562). The tournament took place at the 72-par Sunbrook Golf Course in St. George, Utah.

Freshman Dustin Pimm was the top finisher for the Utes, finishing tied for fifth place with Weber State's Matt Williams. Pimm shot a 72 in the second round to finish at one under par (143). Junior Steve Newren dropped to 11th place after finishing the second round six over par to tally a final score of 147 (+3).

Chris Gresh and Nick Micek both tied for 17th place at five over par (149). Jake Sowby finished 22nd for the Utes, after shooting 70 in the second round to finish at 151 (+7). Senior Ashdon Woods improved in the second round by two strokes to finish with a 75 on the day and 152 (+8) overall.

Nick Carter and Chace Bickmore finished 39th and 49th respectively. Carter finished at 11-over par (+11) and Bickmore finished at 21-over par (165).

QUOTING HEAD COACH Randall McCracken:

"This is going to be an important tournament for us. The field at this event will be one of the strongest we'll see all year and playing well here can really jumpstart us into having a good spring season. We just came off a decent performance in St. George and we are going into this event with some good momentum, so I would expect to see a good performance from us at this event."
