GOODYEAR, Ariz. - The University of Utah men's golf team finished tied for seventh, with the University of Nevada, at the 2005 Pioneer Classic. The Utes shot a three-round score of 867 (+3) at the 72-par Palm Valley Golf Course. Wichita State finished first in the tournament, with a three-round score of 821 (-43).
For the Utes, freshman Chris Gresh finished tied for 18th at one-under par (215). Gresh shot a one-over par 73 in the first round before finishing the final two rounds at one-under par (71). Senior Ashdon Woods finished three strokes back from Gresh, shooting a three-round score of 218 (+2) to place tied for 31st. Woods finished the first round at three-under par (69), before finishing the second round at even par (72). Woods slipped in the final round, shooting a five-over par 77.
Freshman Dustin Pimm finished one stroke behind Woods, finishing with a score of 219 (+3) to finish tied for 35th place. Pimm struggled in the first round, shooting a four-over par 76. In the second round, Pimm finished at even par (72), and improve by one stroke in the third round to finish one-under par (71).
Nick Micek finished tied for 47th place after shooting a three-round score of 222 (+6). Micek shot a 77 (+5) in the first round, before improving in the second round by shooting a two-under par 70. Micek finished the final round of the tournament with a three-over par 75. Nick Carter placed 65th in the tournament after shooting a three-round score of 225 (+9).
The Utes take a break before competing in the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate April 4-5.
