THIS WEEK: The University of Utah men's tennis team heads to Boise, Idaho to match up against the University of Pennsylvania on Friday, Mar. 4 and No. 47 Boise State University on Saturday, Mar. 5.
In the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's team rankings released this week, the University of Utah men's tennis team ranked No. 72. The last time the Utes received a ranking (No. 75) was in May of 2002.
Utah remains undefeated on the season with an 8-0 record.
REVIEWING LAST WEEK: The Utes upset two ranked teams, No. 69 Denver and No. 65 Colorado last week at the Eccles Tennis Center.
Utah defeated the Pioneers (5-2) on Saturday, Mar. 4. On Sunday, Mar. 5 the Utes returned to action and picked up a (4-3) victory over the Buffaloes.
Ute duo of No. 34 Miron Mann and Zach Ganger were handed their first loss of the season against Denver when they fell (8-5) to No. 56 Adam Holmstrem and Niklas Persson.
Against Colorado, Mann and Ganger earned an (8-5) victory over Chad Tsuda and Marcos Digliodo. Currently, they have a 7-1 dual record.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT: The University of Pennsylvania is 7-1 on the season. Last weekend, the Quakers fell to Army (4-3) for their first loss.
Boise State is 11-4 on the season. The team's only losses have been to highly ranked teams, such as No. 1 Baylor University, No. 9 Louisianna State University, No. 12 Kentucky and No. 27 Virginia Commonwealth University.
Luke Shields plays at the No. 1 singles position for the Broncos. He has a 15-7 overall record and an ITA ranking of No. 27. Shields also ranks No. 8 in the ITA doubles polls with parnter, Thomas Schoeck. The duo has compiled a 21-5 overall record at the No. 1 spot.
