Salt Lake City -
THIS WEEK: The No. 65 ranked University of Utah men's tennis team heads into the Mountain West Championships this week Thursday, Apr. 28 to Saturday, Apr. 30. All competition will take place at the Barnes Tennis Center on the San Diego State campus.
Utah is the No. 5 seed and is scheduled to play fourth-seeded No. 54 UNLV on Thursday at 2:30 p.m.
REVIEWING LAST WEEK: Utah closed out the regular season on Friday, April 15 by shutting down Northern Colorado (7-0) at the Salt Lake Tennis Club.
In the ITA doubles rankings released on Apr. 19, Miron Mann and Zach Ganger climbed to No. 29, which is their highest ranking of the year.
The duo has compiled an impressive 22-4 overall and 15-3 dual match record at the No. 1 spot this year.
The men's tennis team finished with a 14-7 overall record and a 1-4 mark in league play.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT: UNLV is 15-7 on the season with a 2-3 record in the Mountain West Conference. The Rebels are lead by the league's MVP top candidate, senior Henner Nehles.
Nehles has 26 wins and eight losses at the No. 1 singles this year. The No. 63 ranked senior is also undefeated in the conference.
QUOTING ASSISTANT COACH Graeme Cox:
"We played a very close 4-3 match with UNLV, our first round opponent, and I believe our match up at the conference tournament will be the same close affair. Whichever team that comes out ready to play will probably take the win.
The conference will be a pretty even affair and every team has a good chance to win."
