SALT LAKE CITY -
University of Utah director of athletics Dr. Chris Hill confirmed today the Ute football team will open its season against Arizona on Friday, Sept. 2 in a nationally televised game on ESPN. The game, originally scheduled for Sept. 1, will kick off at 6 p.m. MT.
The agreement means that three of Utah's first four games of the 2005 season will be televised live by ESPN or ESPN2. Utah's game at TCU on Sept. 15 and a home game against Air Force on Sept. 22 have also been selected by the national sports network.
The three pre-determined nationally televised games are the most ever for the Utah football program, which made nine national television appearances from 2003-04 (eight on ESPN or ESPN2 and one on ABC) during a 22-2 run.
One other game time has been released: The Utah-Utah State game on Sept. 10 will start at 6 p.m. MT in Rice-Eccles Stadium and will be televised by KJZZ. Start times for the remaining Utah football games will be determined by television and will usually be announced 12 days in advance.
