Utah Looks For First Win at UVSC
The University of Utah women's basketball team will be looking for its first win of the season Friday night at Utah Valley State College. The Utes enter the matchup with the Wolverines with an 0-2 record, after dropping a 61-55 decision to Fresno State Monday.
The Utes will be facing a 2-0 Utah Valley State team, which has tallied victories over Mesa State and Utah State. The Wolverines defeated Utah State 68-60 Tuesday night in their most recent outing.
Utah will be looking to avoid the first 0-3 start in the 33-year history of its women's basketball program.
Utah Valley State is in its fourth season as a member of NCAA Division I. For eight seasons prior to 2003-04, UVSC was a junior college and played as a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association.

The Matchup
Utah and Utah Valley State have met only once on the hardwood. The UVSC program has only been a Division I member of the NCAA since 2003-04.
The Utes won the only previous meeting with the Wolverines back on December 2, 2004. Utah picked up an 88-66 win in the Huntsman Center in that contest.
UVSC is paced by 6-1 sophomore center Robyn Fairbanks, who is averaging 28 points and eight rebounds per contest. The Wolverines are 2-0 coming into this game, recording a 101-82 win over Division II Mesa State and a 68-60 victory over Utah State. This will be the third consecutive home game to start the season for Utah Valley.
Strong In the Second
Utah's numbers have improved markedly in the second half of both games so far this season. The Utes are averaging 18 points in the first half through two games, while averaging 32 in the second half. Utah is shooting .264 from the field in the first half this season, while converting at a rate of .435 in the second. The Utes have averaged 13 turnovers in the first 20 minutes, while whittling that number to 6.5 in the second period.
Finding Their Mo-Joh
Sophomore guard Morgan Warburton has led Utah in scoring in all four of its games this season, including exhibition contests. In games that actually count, Warburton had reached double figures eight times during her career. She has now pushed that total to 10. Warburton has been Utah's leading scorer in both regular-season games this season. As a freshman last season, she led the Utes in scoring just once. Warburton's 18-point effort against Fresno State on Monday was a career-high.
Sophomore forward Joh-Teena Filipe was another bright spot for the second consecutive game Monday night. Filipe scored a career-high 12 points against Fresno State in the ninth start of her young career. She narrowly missed a double-double, grabbing nine rebounds against the Bulldogs. Those nine caroms tied a career-high. Filipe also recorded an assist, two steals and Utah's lone block against Fresno State.
