SALT LAKE CITY -- The University of Utah will play three -- possibly four -- of its football games this fall on CSTV: College Sports Television. The Mountain West Conference and CSTV Networks released the national portion of the 2006 MWC football television schedule Wednesday.
Utah's first appearance on CSTV in 2006 will come on Oct. 5 when the TCU Horned Frogs visit Rice-Eccles Stadium for a Thursday night, 7 p.m. MT contest. The Utes fell to TCU in overtime last year in Fort Worth, Texas.
On Oct. 28, Utah's matchup with UNLV at Rice-Eccles will be aired on CSTV. The contest with the Rebels is slated to kick off at 2 p.m. MT. Utah's visit to the Air Force Academy may be broadcast on CSTV, with a decision to come later in the year.
The annual BYU-Utah rivalry game, slated for 1:30 p.m. MT on Nov. 25, will also air on CSTV.
With the release of Wednesday's CSTV schedule, Utah's football schedule now includes game times for five of its six home contests. Game time for the Utes' matchup with Boise State is still to be announced.
The addition of the national package to the 36 football games identified for distribution via The mtn. - the first-ever regional network dedicated to a collegiate conference - will result in unprecedented exposure for the Mountain West Conference and its member institutions. Virtually every home non-conference game and all MWC conference match-ups, home and away, will appear as part of this unique new partnership. The schedule for The mtn. was announced Tuesday.
"We're very excited about the Mountain West Conference's partnership with CSTV Networks," University of Utah Director of Athletics Dr. Chris Hill said. "We will be receiving unprecedented amounts of coverage through this partnership, not just for football, but for all our programs."
The Mountain West Conference kicks off the season with San Diego State hosting UTEP on Thursday, August 31 in a nationally-televised game on CSTV beginning at 8:30 p.m. MT. The CSTV schedule also includes a full slate of key Conference match-ups.
The mtn. is a multi-faceted super regional network with a number of platforms, including a linear regional cable network, customized local programming, broadband distribution, video-on-demand and wireless applications. Games scheduled for The mtn. could appear on one or more of these outlets.
The 2006 MWC football television schedule exemplifies the "Fans First" philosophy. The vast majority of games are set for Saturdays with kickoffs in preferred time slots. Even though some game times may be adjusted to better serve the fans, MWC institutions now know earlier than ever before when their games will start.
