SALT LAKE CITY -
Utah defensive back Eric Weddle was named the Walter Camp National Player of the Week after a three-touchdown, three interception game against San Diego State. He batted down what would have been yet another interception inside the Utah 5-yard line in order to allow time to expire on the last play of the first half. He finished with four total tackles and an assisted sack. Weddle scored three of Utah's five touchdowns--two on interception returns and one on a rush that snapped a 7-7 first-quarter tie. Weddle's two interceptions for touchdowns tied a school record set back in 1985 by Erroll Tucker. He became one of just three Utes ever to record three interceptions in a game--and the first since Eric Jacobsen did so back in 1987. He made Utah history by scoring back-to-back offensive and defensive touchdowns from scrimmage--possibly an NCAA first, as well (at least during modern era of two-platoon play).
