THIS WEEK The University of Utah Track & Field team will travel to Albuquerque, N.M. for the Mountain West Conference Indoor Championships on this Thursday through Saturday.
LAST WEEK Last week the Utes were in Ogden, Utah for the Wildcat Tune-Up where they had four first-place finishers in Haley McAllister (long jump, 18.06 ft.), Susan Atwater (pole vault, 12-0), Mandie Rowell (triple jump, 36-10 ¼ ft.) and Jennifer Cutrer (55m hurdles, 8.20)
UTE NOTES The Utes are looking to their six seniors to get the group ready for the championships this weekend. The seniors consist of NCAA qualifier Amanda Feigt (long jump and 60m hurdles), NCAA regional qualifier Susan Atwater (pole vault), Becky Riddle (shot put and weight throw), Jennifer Cutrer (60m hurdles) and Mandie Rowell (pole vault). This will be their last conference indoor meet and will look to improve on the team's sixth-place showing from last year.
KEPLER'S QUOTES "This is the pinnacle meet of the season and were looking to improve from last year's sixth-place finish," exclaims head coach Kyle Kepler. "We need to step up this weekend and perform our best when it counts the most."
Kepler finishes with, "Our goal this weekend is to put more athletes in the finals. Were not focusing on what other teams are doing but on getting PR's and competing well. We're putting together a championship program, but it takes time and we are not taking any shortcuts in the process."
NEXT WEEK March 8-10 is the NCAA Indoor Championships. Those Utes that have qualified will travel to Fayetteville, Ark. to compete in the three-day event.
