Johnson Named to Davey O'Brien Watch List

SALT LAKE CITY - University of Utah football standout Brian Johnson is one of just 35 quarterbacks from across the country named to the 2007 Davey O'Brien National Quarterback watch list.
Johnson, who last month was voted the MWC's preseason all-conference quarterback, is also on the Maxwell Award watch list, which goes to the outstanding college football player in the nation.
The junior from Baytown, Texas, sat out the 2006 season due to injury. However, in 2005, he led the conference and was No. 4 in the nation in total offense (337 yards per game). Johnson was also the most efficient passer in the league (151.0) - a number that ranked No. 11 in the country. His 289.2 passing yards per game as a sophomore ranked No. 2 in the league.
He enters the 2007 campaign ranked first all-time at Utah in career yards per completion (13.54) while his four 300-yard passing games ranks fifth. To go along with that, his .638 completion rate and his 149.73 passer efficiency rating currently rank second in school annals.
The O'Brien Watch List is based on All-America teams and Honorable Mentions published in at least six different preseason college football magazines. A candidate must be listed as an All-America quarterback or as a first or second team All-American within his conference in at least one publication, or as Honorable Mention in at least three publications.
The winner will be announced on The Home Depot College Football Awards Show on ESPN Dec. 6, 2007. The recipient will be honored Feb. 18, 2008, at the annual Davey O'Brien Awards Dinner at The Fort Worth Club in Fort Worth, Texas.
