> Utah (1-2, 0-1 MWC) plays UNLV (1-2, 0-0 MWC) in Las Vegas on Saturday, Sept. 22 starting at 7:00 p.m. Pacific Time.
> Utah is coming off a 44-6 victory over No. 11 UCLA last Saturday. The Bruins were the highest ranked opponent Utah has defeated since an upset of No. 8 Arizona State back in 1973.
> Utah swept the MWC player of the week awards with running back Darrell Mack and defensive back Robert Johnson winning offensive and defensive honors, respectively, and kicker/punter Louie Sakoda winning the special teams award for the first time this year and the fourth time of his career.
> Utah has won 11 straight games against UNLV - the Utes' longest current win streak against any NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision (I-A) team. Utah's win streak dates back to 1980. The Rebels won the first game of the series in 1979. For more details on the series, please see page 2.
> Utah could possibly have the services of preseason all-conference quarterback Brian Johnson for the first time since he separated his shoulder in the first half of Utah's season-opening game against Oregon State. Johnson is scheduled to begin throwing on Monday.
> Teams will now need to prepare for three quarterbacks when they play the Utes. Tommy Grady has started the last two games in Johnson's absence. True freshman Corbin Louks is in the mix now too, having pulled out of a planned redshirt season last week against UCLA.
> Utah leads the Mountain West Conference in turnover margin (plus 5) and pass efficiency defense (87.1). Nationally, the Utes are tied for 12th in turnover margin - they've forced five turnovers while coughing up three - and rank eighth in pass efficiency defense.
LAST WEEK
Utah dominated every phase of the game, stunning No. 11 UCLA, 44-6, in Rice-Eccles Stadium. Tommy Grady passed for a career-high 246 yards and three touchdowns - two to first-time starting running back Darrell Mack. Mack had his best game ever - and the best game by a Ute back this year - rushing for 107 yards and a touchdown. In his first start, free safety Robert Johnson grabbed two interceptions, broke up a pass and forced a fumble into the end zone for a touchback. Johnson's strip prevented the Bruins from closing to within three points and Utah's offense took advantage by scoring on the change of possession to take a 24-6 lead. Yet another first-time starter, Koa Misi, led Utah with eight tackles and two of Utah's five total sacks. Kicker Louie Sakoda scored 14 points, by making all three field goal attempts and all five PATs. Sakoda's field goals were from 47, 45 and 44 yards out. Utah surprised the Bruins by playing true freshman Corbin Louks at quarterback in certain situations. Louks threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to true freshman tight end Dallin Rogers in the third quarter.
