SALT LAKE CITY - Fans will be treated to several new additions to the Utah game day experience when the Utes open their 2007 home schedule this Saturday against Air Force.
A new LED board measuring 4 feet high by 200 feet long has been installed at the top the north end zone stands in Rice-Eccles Stadium. The new board will display player head shots and a noise meter, as well as special graphics for touchdowns, field goals and first downs. It will also be used to generate revenue for the Utah athletics department through corporate advertising.
The installation of the $500,000 board was funded by Utah Sports Properties, the new marketing and multi-media rights holder for Ute athletics. It is similar to the LED board that CBS Outdoor, Utah Sports Properties' parent company, recently installed in the Georgia Dome.
"The new LED board will provide Utah fans a unique in-game experience by feeding them information about the game and events surrounding it on the latest messaging technology," said Andy Waters, Utah Sports Properties general manager. "The brightness and color of the LED board will make this piece of inventory the most exciting signage we have in the stadium."
Also, three new pre-game activities sponsored by Utah Sports Proper¬ties are scheduled to kick off this Saturday and will occur before every home game: Ute Walk, Utah Village and pre-game radio broadcasts from Utah One.
The Ute Walk will allow fans an opportunity to greet the team as it walks from the Smith Center to Rice-Eccles Stadium, two and a half hours prior to kickoff. The path will take the team down Guardsman Way and on to 500 South, before entering the south side of the stadium.
Utah Village is an interactive fan/corporate hospitality area located on the grassy area north of the Eccles Tennis Center. Open two hours prior to kickoff, it will feature an Autograph Alley, where fans can get autographs from various Utah athletic teams. Utah Village will also include games to entertain the kids. The MUSS and large groups attending the game will be tailgating in Utah Village. Varsity Club members will be nearby, gathering in front of the Dee Glen Smith Center building for their pre-game tailgating.
Fans are also invited to watch the pre-game radio broadcasts by KALL 700 Sports and Utah Sports Radio Network live from Utah Village. The broadcasts will originate from Utah One, Utah Sports Properties' new 40-foot remote broadcast trailer.
Kick-off time for Utah and Air Force is set for 4 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the Rice-Eccles Stadium ticket office, by phone at (801) 581-UTIX or online at UtahUtes.com.
