THIS WEEK:
The University of Utah golf team will compete Feb. 11-12 in the Fourth Annual Southern Utah University Pat Hicks Invitational in St. George, Utah. The tournament, hosted by Southern Utah University, will be held at Sunbrook Golf Course. The tournament will be the Utes' first spring tournament. The par-72 event will feature 18 holes Monday, Feb. 11, and 18 holes Tuesday, Feb. 12.
THE FIELD:
The field this week includes Utah State, Utah, Utah Valley State, Weber State, Dixie State, Rice, Oral Roberts, Centenary, UMKC, Campbell, Kentucky, Denver, Louisiana-Monroe, UC Riverside, Idaho State, Grand Canyon and Southern Utah. The diverse field includes six Beehive State schools, as well as schools from Oklahoma, Louisiana, Missouri, North Carolina, Idaho and California. Host Southern Utah is the two-time defending tournament champion, while Denver won the inaugural event in 2005.
FALL WRAP UP:
The Utes finished the fall portion of their season Oct. 22-23 in San Diego at the Sycuan Invitational, hosted by San Diego State University. The Sycuan Invitational was the last of five autumn tournaments the team competed in. Utah's best finish of the fall came Sept. 24-25 at the Purple and Red Invitational, co-hosted by the U. and Weber State University. The team posted a second-place finish, narrowly missing out on the tournament team title. Dustin Pimm led the Utes with a fifth-place finish at four-under-par, including a blistering 67 in the second round. Chris Gresh finished tied for sixth at three-under. Boise State took the Purple and Red team title by one stroke, finishing at three-under-par.
UTE NOTES:
Utah finished in the top five in three of its five fall tournaments ... The Utes' top finish came Sept. 24-25 at the Purple and Red Invitational, where the team finished second ... Four Utes (Broker, Gresh, Larson, Pimm) competed in all five fall tournaments, while two other golfers (Carter, Cota) competed in three ... Dustin Pimm led the team with a 72.79 stroke average during the fall campaign. Nick Carter was a close second at 73.00, and Nic Larson a close third at 73.79.
