The Utah football team returns to work this week after taking time off for spring break. The Utes will hold practices on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Tackling drills will start on Thursday. Four weeks remain in spring training, which will culminate with the annual Red-White Game on Saturday, April 19. Spring practices, scrimmages and the Red-White game are open to the public.
PRACTICE SITES/INTERVIEWS
The location preference for weekday and some Saturday spring practices is the McCarthey Practice Fields. If the fields are unplayable, the choices, in order, are Rice-Eccles Stadium and the Spence Eccles Field House. Interviews will be conducted after practice. Television cameras are permitted to shoot video of spring practices and scrimmages during spring camp.
UTE NOTES
Eddie Wide has replaced injured Elijah Wesson (ankle) as the backup at one receiver spot. Wide, whose primary position is running back, is the only Ute playing two offensive skill positions in spring ball ... Some shuffling has occurred among the backup linebackers, with Jamel King moving from second string rover to third string middle linebacker. Mo Neal, third string at stud LB to start camp, is now the backup rover behind Stevenson Sylvester ... Receiver Marquis Wilson, who has been barred from team activities since February, remains on indefinite suspension by the coaching staff and cannot practice or lift with the team. Wilson's reinstatement is contingent upon him meeting several undisclosed requirements ... Injuries sustained the first week of spring ball will limit running back Ray Stowers (hip flexor), and tackles Lei Talamaivao (knee) and Aaron Tonga (hamstring). Talamaivao and Tonga are 1-2 on the depth chart at tackle.
RED-WHITE SPRING GAME
The sixth-annual Red-White game will be held in Rice-Eccles Stadium on Saturday, April 19 starting at 1 p.m. It is free to the public and the players will sign autographs after the game.
