SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah men's tennis team will be hosting two teams at Eccles Tennis Center this week. The Utes will face No. 35 Boise State on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. and No. 67 UC Irvine on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. MST.
"It's a great opportunity to play a couple of ranked teams at home," said head coach F.D. Robbins.
THE UTES
The men's tennis team is currently tied with a 7-7 season record. Last week the Utes were on the road in San Diego, Calif. on a three day trip to face Dartmouth College, San Diego, and Princeton. The team started the week off with a 5-2 win over Dartmouth, but after a day off, the Utes fell to No. 67 San Diego 7-0. On March 19, the Utes ended their road trip with a loss to No. 64 Princeton 5-2.
The Utes' squad is led by seniors Zach Ganger and Miron Mann. Ganger has an 18-7 singles record and is 15-5 in doubles play. Mann has a 6-7 singles record and an 8-3 record with Ganger.
BOISE STATE BRONCOS
The team is currently ranked No. 35 by the ITA with a winning 14-10 season record. Last week the Broncos defeated Yale (4-0), Georgia State University (4-0) and No. 65 Wichita State University (4-0).
Leading the Broncos are the Shields brothers. Clancy is ranked No. 60 in singles play with an 18-13 record. Luke is ranked No. 79 by the ITA with an 18-13 singles record as well. The Shields brothers team up at the No. 1 spot in doubles play for the Broncos as well. They have compiled a 13-3 season record and have earned a No. 13 national ranking from the ITA.
