SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah men's tennis team faced Montana State-Bozeman on Saturday for a powerful 7-0 sweep at Eccles Tennis Center. The Utes are now 6-5 for the season.
In doubles play, the Bobcats came out strong against the Utes. At the top spot, Zach Ganger and Miron Mann battled hard to earn an expressive 8-4 victory over Kyle McDonald and Jakob Dybala.
At the No. 2 spot, Jason Smits and Othman Zerouali-Ouariti took on Fletcher Keyes and Myles Perkins. The Ute duo finished out with a 8-4 win to clinch the doubles point.
At the No. 3 spot, Timmy Allin returned to the lineup with partner Wes Hancock. The Ute duo took on Justin Hauck and Pavel Turzarski for a hard-earned 8-5 victory.
In singles play, the bottom of the line-up was able to whip out wins with ease. Allin posted a 6-2, 6-2 straight win over Esteban Ferrero at the No. 6 spot. Smits took on Justin Hauck at the No. 5 spot for Utah. The Ute hit a 6-3, 6-1 win over the Bobcat to give Utah a 3-0 lead over Montana State.
Hancock stepped in at the No. 4 slot on Saturday to play Fletcher Keyes. The Ute earned a 6-4, 6-1 straight set victory. Mann played at the No. 3 spot on Saturday against Jakob Dybala from the Bobcats. The Ute took the first set with an easy 6-2 win, but Dybala challenged him in the second right until the end. Mann powered through to take the win 6-2, 7-5.
Ganger played at the top spot against Kyle McDonald from the Bobcats for a hard earned 6-4, 6-4 victory. Zerouali-Ouariti finished out for the Utes on Saturday at the No. 2 spot against Pavel Turzarski. The Ute had to really work for his win against the Bobcat, but ended up proving his talent. Zerouali-Ouariti took the win 6-4, 7-6(5)

"I think the team played a good match today and everybody competed hard. We needed a win and everybody stepped up. Zach and Miron did a great job beating a team they lost to last year. Hopefully this will give us some momentum for our California spring break trip."
