Albuquerque, N.M. - The University of Utah men's tennis team finished their three-day conference road trip with a 7-0 dominating win over U.S. Air Force Academy. The Utes are now 10-9 for the season and are tied in conference play 2-2.
The Utes swept doubles play with controlled wins at every position. Wes Hancock and Timmy Allin took on Mike Gies and Harrison Maloy from the Falcons' squad. The Ute duo dominated the court to take the match 8-0 to start the Utes out on the right foot.
Zach Ganger and Miron Mann teamed up at the top spot for a quick match as well. The Ute duo faced Brett Rodgers and Taylor Soster for an 8-1 win to clinch the doubles point for Utah. At the No. 2 spot John Taylor and Othman Zerouali-Ouariti dominated their court with an 8-1 win over Austin Francis and Alex Beaussart.
The Falcons were unable to pull out a single win on Sunday over the Utes. Hancock finished up first at the No. 4 spot with an effortless 6-0, 6-0 win over Johnny Buckingham to give the Utes a 2-0 lead.
At the top spot, Ganger defeated Brett Rodgers from the Falcons in a straight 6-1, 6-1 battle in the Ute's favor. Utah's Mann battled at the No. 2 spot with Air Force's Austin Francis. Mann took down Francis 6-3, 6-1 to automatically give Utah the win 4-0.
Zerouali-Ouariti played at the No. 3 spot on Sunday against Taylor Soster from the Falcon's roster. The Ute notched a strong 6-2, 6-3 win over Soster to continue Utah's rhythm.
Allin and Jacobs finished up shortly after at No.5 and No. 6 singles. Alex Beaussart from Air Force played Allin at the No. 5 spot. The Falcon put up a little fight in the first set, but Allin still came out victorious to force a 7-5, 6-2 win.
Finishing out on Sunday was Jacobs at the No. 6 spot against Mike Gies. The Falcon appeared to be a challenge for the Ute as the two players struggled to close out the first set. Jacobs had the final say in the set and didn't allow for much error in the second set as he took Gies down 7-6(2), 6-1.
"We are very happy to finish a weekend of tough tennis with a win over Air Force," said assistant coach Roeland Brateanu. "The guys competed hard and worded hard to upset San Diego State and to follow it up with a nother win today. We are looking forward to continue our momentum, into next week's final regular season conference matches."
