SALT LAKE CITY - University of Utah safety Steve Tate has been named to the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame 2008 NFF Hampshire Honor Society.
Tate, an economics major with a 3.34 cumulative grade-point average, was a first-team all-conference selection in 2007. The Salt Lake City native led all defensive backs in the Mountain West Conference last year with 10.5 tackles for a loss, 2.0 of which were sacks. He also led the team in 2007 with 103 tackles, which ranked seventh in the Mountain West Conference, and his 7.9 tackles-per-game ranked eighth in the league. Tate also finished the season with three interceptions and four pass break ups.
The Skyline High School product was a standout off the field in 2007, earning Academic All-Mountain West and Athletics Director Honor Roll accolades. He has been named to the Dean's List four times, Academic All-MWC three times and to the Athletics Directors honor roll on six occasions.
In addition to his first tam all-conference selection in 2007, Tate was honorable mention in 2006.
The NFF recognition is given to college football players from all divisions of play. They must be a starter or a significant substitute in their last year of eligibility, achieve a 3.2 cumulative grade point average throughout the entire course of undergraduate study and meet all NCAA-mandated progress towards degree requirements.
