Four former Utes are winding down their seasons in the minor leagues at various levels around the country.
Stephen Fife, who finished his Utah career this spring and was drafted by the Boston Red Sox, is pitching for the Lowell Spinners of the New York Penn League. He is 1-1 on the season with a 2.57 ERA and two saves in 13 games. He has 35 strikeouts. Lowell closes out its season this weekend.
Jesse Shriner signed a free agent contract with the San Francisco Giants following the Ute's season. He played six games with the Arizona League Giants and hit a triple and double in his 15 at-bats. He also saw action with the San Jose Giants of the California League.
Ryan Khoury, who was drafted by the Red Sox in 2006, started his season with the Lowell Spinners before moving on to the Portland Sea Dogs of the Double-A Eastern League. He is batting .284 in 85 games with 40 RBI and four home runs. The Sea Dogs are in the Eastern League Northern Division Championship Series.
Jay Brossman spent the year with the Cedar Rapids Kernels of the Class `A' Midwest League. Brossman, the starting third baseman, is hitting .239 with 12 home runs and 61 RBI on the season. He leads the team with 127 games played and 124 starts. The Kernels are in the league playoffs. Brossman was drafted by the Los Angeles Angels in 2007.
