SALT LAKE CITY- The University of Utah men's tennis team (3-0) heads to Waco, Texas to compete in the first round of the ITA National Team Indoor Championships against No. 7 Baylor (1-1), Friday Jan. 30.
"This will be a great learning experience for our team to play on the road against Baylor," said assistant coach Roeland Brateanu. "It is an opportunity for us to beat a team ranked in the top 10 nationally."
The Utes are on the road for the first time this season after winning their first three home matches. Utah has recorded victories against Eastern Washington, 6-1, Utah State, 5-1, and Weber State, 7-0.
Utah is currently undefeated in the No. 2, 4, 5, and 6 singles positions during dual-match play and is unbeaten in doubles, with a 9-0 record.
Utah's second-round opponent will be either No. 57 San Diego State (0-1) or No. 58 Georgia Tech (2-1). If the Utes are victorious against Baylor, they will face the winner of SDSU vs. GT. Should Utah fall to the Bears they will face the loser of the aforementioned match. Second round play will be held on Jan. 31 in Waco.
