SALT LAKE CITY- The University of Utah men's golf team is back in action, beginning their spring season in San Diego, Calif. The Utes will compete in the 2009 Barona Collegiate Cup hosted by San Diego State beginning with the first two rounds Monday, March 16 and finishing with the final round on Tuesday.
The tournament will be held at the Barona Creek Golf Club consisting of a 7,393 yard, 72-par course. Nine teams are set to accompany the Utes in the field, they include, Colorado State, New Mexico, New Mexico State, San Diego, San Diego State, St. Mary's, San Jose State, UTEP and Wyoming.
Last year, the Utes did not participate in the Barona Cup. Texas A&M won the tournament as a team shooting 37-under-par and a combined score of 827. The winner of the individual competition was Nacho Elvira of Texas A&M with a total score of 204, shooting 12-under-par.
The last time the Utes were seen in action was at the Kauai Invite in Kauai, Hawaii. They finished in fifth-place with a score of 852 strokes at 12-under-par. Senior Chance Cota lead the Utes with a final combined score of 205 strokes (69, 67, 69) at 11-under-par.
