* The Ute football team ran through 24 periods at Ute Baseball Field on day four of camp. Starting today, the Utes will divide their practice venues between the baseball field and the stadium to preserve the grass on the football practice fields for the season.
* Redshirt freshman Ryan Lacy has moved from receiver to cornerback ... at least for now. Said head coach Kyle Whittingham, "Ryan has all the tools to make a great corner, so we want to take a look at him there. We are very deep at receiver and we want to make sure we can get our best players on the field." After practice, Lacy was enthusiastic about the move. "I'm going to try it until Wednesday and then they'll make a decision," he said. "I liked it (playing corner) and I want to do what I can to help the team."
* Stars of the Day: Defensive tackles Dave Kruger, Latu Heimuli and Lei Talamaivao. "We have some great young tackles," said Whittingham. "Dave and Latu are progressing nicely and it's great to have Lei back." Talamaivao, a redshirt sophomore, had earned a starting job in game two last year only to break his leg and miss the rest of the season. He is completely recovered from the injury.
* What are the coaches looking for from the QBs during the first five days of no-pads' practice? "Ball security, poise, composure and mechanics," says Whittingham.
* Louie Sakoda is back on the field as an undergraduate student assistant coach. As a student coach, "King Louie" may coach, practice with the team, coach on the sidelines during games and travel with the team to away competitions. Student assistant coaches must carry a full-time course load, be within their five-year clock, pursuing a degree, and is not receiving remuneration other than athletics aid.
