SALT LAKE CITY - The 51st-ranked University of Utah men's tennis team opens the spring schedule at home Saturday against Utah State (0-1). The match will be held at the Eccles Tennis Center beginning at 5 p.m. MT.
"We are looking forward to getting the 2010 season started against a very good and competitive Utah State squad," said head coach F.D. Robbins. "We will have to play some very good tennis and we will have to compete hard in order to come up with a victory."
Last year the Utes had a, 5-2, win over the Aggies. Utah swept doubles and clinched the match from the No. 2 singles position at, 4-0.
Utah State opened their spring schedule against 64th-ranked BYU. The Aggies fell to the Cougars in a, 7-0, sweep.
The match against Utah State will mark the Utes' first action since senior Phillip Eilers and freshman Alex Golding competed at the ITA National Indoors Doubles Championships Nov. 5. The pair received an automatic berth in the elite 16-team national championship event after winning the doubles title at the Wilson/ITA Mountain Region Championships. Eilers and Golding became the first Utah doubles team to quality for National Indoors in over 20 years.
